Fernandes is a political economist and activist from Brazil who has written extensively about ecosocialism, internationalism, leftist organising, Latin America and Global South politics and ecosocial transitions.

She has also contributed to the Global Ecosocialist Network and is a member of the Ecosocial and Intercultural Pact of the South, of the 2026 Post Growth Institute Fellowship and of the NACLA report's editorial committee.
